The album Absolutely Free by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention was a cornerstone of my musical universe in high school.  Although originally it was the quotations of twentieth century classical music that I latched on to, I have come to appreciate the album's deep sense of humor and iconoclasm.  Duke of Prunes was always my favorite track - its charmingly absurd lyrics ("a moonbeam through the prune in June reveals your chest / I see your lovely beans, and in that magic go-kart I bite your neck") and Zappa's many layers of  sung, spoken, and shouted vocal parts float on top of the instruments' self-assured genre play.

Duke of Prunes was premiered by Ensemble Dal Niente on May 14th, 2011 at the Mayne Stage in Chicago, Illinois.
