English songwriter/producer James Blake's self-titled debut album of 2011 was a revelation to me.  Blake's intensely vulnerable voice, along with his finely wrought off-kilter beats make for a music that is emotionally and intellectually compelling.  When asked by the Spektral Quartet for an arrangement to go on their season-opening Sampler Pack for 2012, I chose the album's haunting third track, "I Never Learnt to Share".  In creating the quartet version, I deconstructed Blake's dolorous vocal lines, distributing them among the four instrumentalists and employed a rich vocabulary of string techniques to approximate the scintillating palette of colors in his beats

I Never Learnt to Share was premiered by the Spektral Quartet on August 29th, 2012 at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, Illinois.
